Cooking

Today we made biscuits with Mrs Brown-Lee. We used cutters to make people who are special to us. Thank you for helping us today.

Our Traction Man Characters

We had a great morning making our characters. We used our designs so that we knew what to do and then we added fabric and eyes to give our objects a new identity. Here are some of our finished creations. It was great to see how closely our designs matched our finished characters.

Crucial crew

This morning year 6 went out to go to crucial crew. It was about safety including, fire, road, first aid, park rangers and drugs. Thanks to Miss Burrows and Mrs Gibbs for organising this trip.

Tommy WWI

Today John came to talk to us and introduce TommyWWI. This year we are marking 100 years since the end of World War I. As part of our learning about our responsibility  within the community to remember the soldiers, we will be making poppies to decorate the maypole with.

Practical maths

Today we used the Numicon and Deans to help us to think about place value and bridging. We thought about the value of each digit e.g. in 369 the 6 is 6 tens which is 60. We challenged ourselves with numbers into the thousands and some of us tackled decimal numbers too!

Traction Man Posters

We continued our work on the senses today, using them to describe characters from the story. We then used these to write our sentences. We focused on punctuation, with some of us adding joining words and prepositions.

Balances

In maths today we used the balances to solve addition problems like 9 + 11. We wrote the equals sign in the middle of the balance and realised that it didn’t matter which way round our calculation was, it still worked. 7 + 2 = ? Is the same as ? = 7 + 2

The Senses

In our science lesson today we were looking at the senses. We talked about the senses and what part of our body was responsible for each one. We realised that we sensed touch with our skin, not just our hands. We also realised that sometimes that we tasted things with our eyes, like green porridge… Read more »
