Tolleshunt D’Arcy St Nicolas C of E Vision Statement

Our Academy Vision:

As members of Canonium Learning Trust, we are united in our shared purpose to give every child the very best education possible. Our vision at Tolleshunt D’Arcy St Nicholas C of E Primary Academy sets out how we will achieve this:

Come to the edge
Come to the edge.
We might fall.
Come to the edge.
It’s too high!
COME TO THE EDGE!
And they came,
And he pushed,
And they flew.

By Christopher Logue

In the spirit of Christopher Logue’s timeless poem, “Come to the Edge,” our school invites pupils to make the most of every opportunity, embrace challenges and ultimately live ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10). At our academy, we strive to inspire our pupils to ‘come to the edge’ of their potential, ready to leap into the future with confidence and curiosity.

To achieve this we place our greatest efforts on nurturing:

Articulate Children with Strong Literacy Skills

We believe that strong literacy skills are the foundation upon which all other learning is built. Through innovative teaching methods and a rich literary environment, we nurture children to express themselves with eloquence and creativity. We empower them to read, write, and communicate effectively, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of secondary school and beyond.

Resilient Learners and Inclusivity

In the spirit of Logue’s poem, we encourage our pupils to step to the edge of their comfort zone, to take risks, and to embrace the unknown. We understand that resilience is the bridge between failure and success, and we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where children learn not only from their triumphs but also from their setbacks. In our inclusive school community, we understand differences and teach our pupils to be compassionate and empathetic individuals who respect and support one another.

Readiness for the Future

We envision our pupils as future leaders, innovators, and contributors to society. Our curriculum is designed to equip them with not only academic knowledge but also the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are necessary for the rapidly changing world we live in. We prepare our pupils to embrace technology, appreciate the arts, and engage with the global community, ensuring they are not just ready for secondary school but ready to thrive in an ever-evolving future.

A Thriving Community with a Christian Ethos

Our Church of England school is a vibrant and thriving community where pupils, families, and our team come together to inspire, support, and uplift one another. We believe that a strong sense of community is essential for the holistic development of our children. We encourage active participation, open communication, and collaboration amongst all so that we can flourish together.

In embracing the essence of “Come to the Edge,” our vision is to empower each child to “come to the edge” of their potential, to take that fearless leap into the future, and to do so with the confidence that they are equipped with the knowledge, values, and mindset needed to thrive.

Together, we journey to the edge, and from there, we soar.

As a community, we have chosen our school values that underpin how we flourish together and work towards achieving our school vision:
