Defeating the Monster Story

This week, Class 3 have started to think about different stories where a monster has been defeated by an unexpected hero. They discussed and made a list of the different stories that they have listened to or read and they identified the common structure within them all.

  1. There is a lovely place
  2. A monster appears and terrorizes it
  3. An unexpected hero appears
  4. They defeat the monster
  5. All is well. Everyone celebrates.

Today, the children enjoyed learning about expanded noun phrases, what they are and locating them in the class Defeating the Monster story, Max and the Monster! Expanded noun phrases add more detail to the noun by adding one or more adjectives. An adjective is a word that describes a noun. For example:

a huge tree,

some colourful sweets,

the large, royal castle.

Can the children find examples of expanded noun phrases when reading their books at home?

We look forward to learning more about what makes a good Defeating the Monster Story over the next two weeks! .

Well done Class 3!
